Robitussin maker recalls several lots of cough syrup due to contamination

Haleon, the maker of Robitussin cough syrup, has initiated a recall for eight lots of Robitussin Honey CF Max Day Adult and Robitussin Honey CF Max Nighttime Adult products with expiration dates ranging from October 2025 to June 2026.
These lots, distributed to stores and pharmacy suppliers, are being recalled due to the possible presence of dangerously high levels of yeast. Although yeast is a natural component of honey, the levels detected in these products exceed the allowed measurements and poses a serious risk to people with weakened immune systems.
For individuals with weakened immune systems, such as organ transplant recipients or those with HIV, ingestion of the contaminated syrup may lead to severe fungal infections, posing a potentially serious health risk. It is estimated that several million people in the U.S. have conditions that compromise their immune system’s ability to fight off infections.
While the risk of serious infection is lower for healthy individuals, the company urges anyone who has used the affected products to be cautious.
As of now, Haleon has not received any reports of injury or infection linked to these products. However, it is crucial for consumers who have used these products to contact their healthcare provider immediately if they suspect any issues related to the recall.
Additionally, consumers can report any problems or adverse effects to the FDA through its online reporting system. For more information, please visit the FDA’s website.
