Powder Springs pastor charged with child molestation

Share

Powder Springs resident Rodney Colston, a former pastor at Temple Baptist Church of West-Cobb, has been arrested and charged with sexually abusing minors. Records reflect that Colston, 64, became a pastor at the church in 1997 but do not reflect when he departed from this role.

According to jail records on his arrest, Colston sexually abused three minors at his Powder Springs home. Law enforcement interviewed the three victims and they confirmed that Colston molested them. Charges for sexual molestation of two of the victims are beyond the statute of limitations, however, the third victim, a 14-year-old girl, told law enforcement that she was abused by Colston approximately seven years ago. As a result, Colston was arrested and faced one felony charge for child molestation.

Police say that Colston admitted to them during a phone call that he molested one of the three victims while she slept on his sofa. Colston later declined a formal interview with members of the special victims unit after engaging an attorney.

Colston was arrested and later released from the Cobb jail after posting a $25,000 bond.

It is unknown at this time if any of the abuse occurred while Colston was a pastor. Other victims are encouraged to contact law enforcement.
