Kennesaw State University’s recently installed President, Kathy Schwaig, is showing her commitment to KSU by endowing a $100,000 scholarship honoring her parents. The funds will kick-start the Ed and Nola Stewart Endowed Scholarship, which is named for Schwaig’s parents. KSU made the announcement this week that Schwaig endowed the scholarship for her parents having put her and her three siblings through college. Schwaig’s father obtained a degree and became a minister after rejecting his own parents’ desires to see him become a truck driver.
Ed and Nola Stewart saw all of their children obtain a master’s degree or higher, with their support. “My siblings and I had summer jobs, but my parents paid all of our undergraduate expenses,” President Schwaig said in a news release. “Having benefited from their sacrifices, I know firsthand just how valuable it is to receive unwavering support. I hope that recipients of this scholarship share my experience as they pursue their passions at KSU and that others who share my parents’ passion for higher education find ways to give back.”
