The polls for early voting closed on Friday with nearly 440,000 Georgians having voted ahead of election day.
The early voting period concluded with around 416,000 in-person voters over the past three weeks, along with an additional 24,000 voters who returned absentee ballots, as reported by state election data.
Officials say the current voter turnout is trailing behind the participation levels witnessed in 2020. By the equivalent point in 2020, 1.2 million people had voted, primarily through absentee ballots during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Georgia law allows any registered voter to participate in either party’s primary regardless of their political affiliation.
For those yet to cast their votes, Georgia’s primary election day is scheduled for Tuesday, with voting locations open across the state from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters can find their precincts through the state’s My Voter Page at mvp.sos.ga.gov.
