President Joe Biden will host the United We Stand Summit on Sept. 15, highlighting the “corrosive effects” of violence on public safety and democracy. Advocates pushed Biden to hold the event after 10 Black people were killed at a Buffalo, New York, supermarket in May.

Health officials are warning people who are infected with monkeypox to stay away from household pets since the animals could be at risk of catching the virus. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for months has had the advice in place. But it gained new attention after a report from France about a greyhound that caught the virus. The dog belongs to a couple who said they sleep alongside the animal.

Monkeypox vaccines should soon be easier to get and available for more people, with priority given to people at higher risk, after new policies were adopted. The Georgia Department of Public Health launched a new centralized scheduling tool on its website to help people access monkeypox vaccines. To schedule a monkeypox vaccine, go to dph.ga.gov/monkeypox and click on the Learn More tab under “Find a Vaccine and Register for an Appointment.” There is also a new Vaccine Scheduling Resource Line at 888-457-0186 to help people who need assistance with a vaccine appointment via telephone that can include people who don’t have internet access

Rudy Giuliani, former Mayor of New York and onetime personal attorney of former President Donald Trump testified before the Fulton County special purpose grand jury examining Georgia’s 2020 elections for roughly six hours on Wednesday. He arrived to a circus-like atmosphere with three-dozen reporters and camera people from local and national news outlets trying to get the best view of the former New York City mayor. Giuliani left the Fulton County courthouse through a private exit shortly after 3 p.m. with a sheriff’s escort.

A panel of federal appeals court judges on Sunday postponed the testimony of U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham before a Fulton County special grand jury until a lower court hears arguments about the types of questions the South Carolina Republican can and cannot be asked due to constitutional protections for members of Congress. The ruling, from two appointees of President Donald Trump and one appointee of President Bill Clinton, delays testimony from Graham that had initially been scheduled for Tuesday.

Newly appointed Marietta High School principal Eric L. Holland is the sole superintendent finalist for Rome City Schools. Holland started working as the principal of Marietta High on July 18. He has announced a finalist for the superintendent role this week. A Marietta schools spokeswoman said Superintendent Grant Rivera did not know Holland was in the running for the Rome superintendent role, but The Rome News-Tribune reported in July that Holland was one of 18 candidates for the superintendent’s position.

The Development Authority of Cobb County shared with members of the Cobb School Board that aerospace giant Lockheed Martin is requesting an unprecedented $1.6 billion bond request. Lockheed’s request is the largest the authority has ever considered. While previous bond requests from companies expanding in or moving to the county have been for a one-time project, Lockheed’s request is instead open-ended. Lockheed says the incentives would help the firm, which employs about 5,000 people at its Marietta plant, compete against other defense contractors for an array of potential government contracts over the next 20 years.

The first electrified vehicle for the Dodge brand under Stellantis will be a plug-in hybrid crossover called the Hornet, a resurrected name most recently used for a 1970s station wagon. The compact crossover will be Dodge’s new entry-level vehicle, with a starting price of less than $30,000 for a Hornet GT model with a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine. The plug-in hybrid model, which Dodge is calling the Hornet R/T, will start at about $40,000.

Allstate Property & Casualty Company has filed an overall statewide automobile rate increase of 40 percent on their Georgia policyholders in this calendar year alone. Under Georgia’s dual rate filing system governing automobile insurance rates established in Georgia state law, the Insurance Commissioner only has the authority to approve or disapprove minimum limits policy filings, while all other filings can go into effect immediately under what is known as “file and use.” The latest rate increase filed by Allstate falls into the latter category. This rate increase will go into effect for new Allstate customers on September 12, while current customers will see the increase on their renewals beginning October 16.
