Cobb man sentenced for child molestation

Share

A Cobb County jury found a 75-year-old man guilty on child molestation charges in connection to the sexual abuse of a 6-year-old girl, the Cobb District Attorney’s office announced. Superior Court Chief Judge Robert Leonard sentenced Richard Harold Amos, to 19 years, along with one year of probation. Amos was charged in 2020 with inappropriately touching the child. Amos touched the child with his hands under her clothes more than once, his arrest warrant states.

Cobb County Police officers responded to a mother’s 911 call on May 11, 2020, saying her daughter had been sexually assaulted.  Police said the child told her mother that she was being touched inappropriately when she spent time with her “grandad.” Richard Amos, who was a grandparent figure in the child’s life, was accused of the assault. Cobb County police later learned of additional incidents of child molestation within the Amos family.

Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney Patricia Hull said that the girl’s grandparents’ home was her happy place. “She loved visiting there and spending time with her ‘step-dad’ before this sexual abuse started. She deserves justice.”
