Armed robberies earn Marietta man a life sentence

Share

Life, without the possibility of parole, is what a Marietta man learned was his sentence for a pair of armed robberies committed in January 2019.

Sergio Hernandez, 35, was found guilty by a Cobb jury of a laundry list of charges that included three counts of armed robbery, six counts of aggravated assault, two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and three counts of criminal attempt to commit armed robbery.

Hernandez was sentenced to life without parole plus five years last Friday by Cobb Superior Court Judge Henry Thompson

With the help of a still-unknown accomplice who remains at large, Hernandez attempted to rob at gunpoint the Servi Giros check-cashing business on Windy Hill Road on Jan. 6, 2019.

The owner was able to press a panic button connected to a silent alarm, and the two fled. Three days after the first robbery failed,  the duo successfully robbed Los Vasqueros Western Wear on South Cobb Drive. They made off in a 1992 blue Buick Riviera with $4,000 and three cell phones. The robberies occurred within a mile of each other.
